Matthews Mini Boom (427802)

Steel boom arm, 45-80 inches of extension, mounts on any 5/8 inch baby pin and accepts a fixture on a 5/8 inch baby pin at the end. This is what we use to float a hair light, kicker, or accent light over a subject without the stand showing in frame. Three telescoping sections, V-shaped brass brakes, knurled baby pin, sandbag hook at the rear for counterweighting. Load capacity changes dramatically with extension: rated for substantial weight at minimum extension (up to 88 lb at 45 in, per Matthews) and only 8 lb at full 80-inch reach. The physics are linear, longer lever, less capacity. What goes on it for us: FC-120, FC-500C, FS-300C, PavoTubes, small fixtures at long reach, larger fixtures only at shorter extension. The first thing on the boom is the sandbag at the rear hook, before the fixture goes on the front. Mounted on a Combo stand or Low Boy for heavy work; a C-stand handles it for lighter fixtures. Never assembled and walked away from without verifying balance.
