Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM

The RF 28mm f/2.8 STM is Canon's compact pancake prime, under 120g, full-frame coverage, and small enough to disappear on the R5C or R8 body. STM autofocus is quiet and accurate enough for video work, and the 9-blade rounded aperture renders smooth out-of-focus areas at f/2.8 on full-frame. There's no IS, pair it with a body that has IBIS (the LUMIX S1II isn't RF-mount, so the practical answer is to use a gimbal or stabilized footage in post). Not built for low-light work and not built for the most demanding optical applications, but for travel, BTS, doc, and casual coverage it's the lightest RF lens in our kit and earns its place on shoots where weight and discretion matter more than the f/1.4 stop. 55mm filter. We rent it as the everyday wide on the R8 and as the lightweight option on the R5C when packing matters.
