We rent it for projects where a fast 50mm prime is the right answer and a $1,400 RF 50mm f/1.2L is overkill: documentary work on the R8, second-camera B-roll, situations where a fast-and-light prime needs to disappear in the kit. Soft wide open by RF L-series standards but sharp enough at f/2.8-f/4 for any deliverable shy of a master shot. 7-blade rounded aperture, no IS, 43mm filter, close focus at 0.30m. Pair it with the R5C for AF-driven interview work or the R8 for a compact full-frame travel kit. STM motor is quiet enough that AF noise doesn't show up on scratch audio in normal shooting conditions.
