Description

The R8 is the smallest, lightest full-frame body we own, 461g with battery and card. We don't pretend it's a primary production camera. We rent it as the right tool for a specific set of jobs: BTS, crash cam, ultra-light gimbal payload (it lives happily on an RS3 Mini or RS4 Mini), a dedicated angle for a client monitor feed, or a second body when a small crew needs full-frame Canon color in a backpack. It shares a sensor and AF system with the Canon R6 Mark II, 24MP full-frame, 6K-oversampled UHD 4K up to 60p in 10-bit 4:2:2, Canon Log 3, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with the same subject detection that runs on Canon's pro bodies. What it lacks is what makes it a B/C body, not an A: a single SD slot (no backup recording), the smaller LP-E17 battery (about 65 minutes of 4K), no IBIS, and no weather sealing. None of those are dealbreakers when you're using it as a third or fourth angle, on a gimbal, or as a POV camera. They are dealbreakers if you're trying to use it as your only camera on a paid shoot, which we don't recommend. RF mount native; an EF-to-RF adapter brings any of our Canon EF glass into play. USB-C power delivery is supported, which is the right call for any extended use.
