RED Komodo 6K
Moodier and more neutral than ARRI, strong shadow detail, holds resolution at 6K, looks clean at high ISO. The global shutter look is recognizably different from rolling-shutter cameras: cleaner motion, no organic wobble.
Friday pickup, Monday return counts as one day.
Description
The Komodo is the camera we reach for when the Alexa is wrong. Smaller, lighter, faster, and it shoots 6K REDCODE RAW with a global shutter, which is the part that matters. No rolling shutter on whip pans, no jello on car mounts, no skew when a strobe fires. It pairs naturally with the Alexa as a B-camera (we own both for that reason), but it earns its rate as a primary on gimbal work, music videos that need 120fps in 2K, run-and-gun where size matters, and any shot where the Alexa would just be in the way. The image is moodier and more contrasty than ARRI, closer to a dark comic book than a watercolor. RED's IPP2 color science holds up well in a controlled grade and matches cleanly to the Alexa with proper LUT work. Canon RF mount native, which means you can run our Canon RF and Canon EF (via adapter) glass on it, plus our Sigma cine primes through the Revolva PL-to-RF mount. Records to a single CFast 2.0 slot, RED-approved cards only, and runs on Canon BP-9 series batteries, which is genuinely convenient compared to most cinema cameras. About 27W power draw means a 150Wh V-Mount via the Mutiny IO module gets you most of a day. Important to know: the Komodo's RF mount has contrast-detect AF only, not phase-detect, so plan on manual focus for any serious work. We do.
