Lensbaby Burnside 35mm f/2.8

The Lensbaby Burnside 35mm is our Petzval-inspired character lens, a dual-diaphragm optical design from the 1840s reborn as a modern manual prime. The primary aperture controls exposure and the size of the sharp center; the secondary aperture (a bronze slider on the side of the barrel) controls vignetting and the shape of the famous swirl in the out-of-focus background. Wide open at f/2.8 with the slider at maximum: hard vignette, swirling bokeh, a sharp center surrounded by motion. Stopped down: less swirl, more conventional rendering. It's a one-trick pony in the sense that one trick is the entire reason to rent it, narrative shots, music videos, dream sequences, anywhere the look is the point. Manual focus only, no electronic communication with the camera (camera shoots in manual exposure mode), 0.15m close focus is the closest in our entire EF prime set. EF mount.
