Sennheiser MKE 600

Sennheiser's budget-friendly short shotgun, true condenser, super-cardioid pattern, 15 dB-A self noise, 126 dB SPL maximum. Not the MKH 416, but closer to it than the price gap suggests. The headline practical feature is dual power: 48V phantom is preferred, but a single AA battery in the rear compartment serves as a failsafe. If a phantom-power channel drops mid-take, the AA takes over without audio dying. Switchable low-cut filter at 80 Hz on the body for HVAC and wind rumble. Slightly lighter than the 416 (128g) and a touch longer. We rent it on smaller productions, as a B-mic against the 416, or anywhere phantom power isn't guaranteed.
