The MKH 416 is the industry-standard short shotgun, the mic that's been on a million voice-overs, narrative dialogue tracks, and documentary booms for forty years, and continues to earn its place. RF condenser design, super-cardioid pattern, 13 dB-A self noise (extremely low), 130 dB SPL maximum. The RF condenser architecture is what makes it humidity-resistant, most condensers go noisy in damp environments; the 416 keeps working. Frequency response is essentially flat with a gentle 8-10 kHz presence rise that flatters voice without sounding hyped. Requires 48V phantom; no battery option.
