Tokina Cinema 25-75mm T2.9
Warm and modern with virtually no breathing, the breathing control is the headline feature. Slightly soft at T2.9, sweet spot at T4-T5.6. The right zoom for narrative coverage where focus pulls happen constantly.
Friday pickup, Monday return counts as one day.
Description
The Tokina 25-75mm is our mid-range cinema zoom, Super 35 coverage, constant T2.9 across the entire range with zero ramping, virtually no focus breathing, genuinely parfocal out of the box. It's the lens that earns its place when production pace doesn't allow lens changes: documentary interviews where you need to push in tight, dolly shots that zoom mid-take, gimbal coverage where swapping primes isn't practical. Multiple reviewers describe the breathing control as on par with $30,000 zooms, this is the lens's defining feature, and it's why it makes the cut on narrative work where rack focuses happen constantly. The image is warm and modern, with a slightly soft rendering at T2.9 that sharpens noticeably at T4-T5.6. PL mount, 0.8 MOD gears identical in position to the rest of the Tokina Cinema family, 86mm filter / 95mm front. A 300-degree focus throw means you'll want a follow focus or wireless motor, the throw is too long for hand-pulling. Important to flag: this is a Super 35 lens. It vignettes on the Alexa Mini LF in full-frame modes. Use it in S35 modes on the Mini LF, or natively on the Komodo (S35 sensor), where it covers cleanly with margin to spare.
